When the Universe Conspiresby Vince PoscenteAuthor of The Ant and the Elephant, Invinceable Principles and The Age of Speed Do you know the saying, If you want something bad enough, the universe will conspire to get it for you...? Last week I was invited to help a record label/management company, Music World Entertainment, launch their new strategic initiatives. My job was to help the team get on the same page. By the way, MWE was founded by Mathew Knowles. The guy who created Destiny's Child and the engine behind Beyoncé's career. A proud father. A music industry entrepreneur and icon. In my discovery call I asked if I could bring my son. "He is an aspiring rock and roller and I think he'd learn a lot being around you all." They loved the idea. Jumping ahead - After my morning presentation they had lunch. Max was asked to play some of his originals for them in a mini-acoustic set. Even though there was activity and talking Max was as confident as could be. He got up, played and sang. As the COO was thanking Max, Mr. Knowles jumped up and said, "Max, you have talent and people should know about you. Tell you what I'll arrange. We'll give you a recording session for one digital track, fully produced and released on iTunes. How's that sound?" Max smiled his little grin and said, "Cool." Later that day I closed the session. It was a very successful day. Following the meeting Mr. Knowles asked to meet with us. After we debriefed the day's events, Mathew's focus turned to Max perspective on music.
As much advice as Mr. Knowles had, Max was pretty clear on the direction he wanted to take his music. Ultimately, Mathew Knowles finally said, "Max what sign are you?" "Cancer." "Now I get it," said Mathew leaning back. "I kept thinking - You sound so familiar." Mathew Knowles' other daughter is Solange (also Cancer). She only wants to produce music that she thinks is right for her. Beyoncé does the popular hits but Solange is on a different path. "Max, I will be in Dallas in a few days. I'd like to hear you perform for me. Bring the boys in your band. You up for that?" Max grinned again and said, "Cool." The universe is very cool indeed. Answer these five questions to yourself:
The universe (heaven, pure potentiality or how ever you define it) is waiting to help. Now it's your turn. Until next week, it's full speed ahead,
