Immo Bounceby Vince PoscenteAuthor of The Ant and the Elephant, Invinceable Principles and The Age of Speed Reinvention is on everyone's mind it seems. Unfortunately it's being forced on us like a plate of cold brussel sprouts. Therefore, finding a palatable way to transform is critical. Start by saying, Immo Bounce. Who doesn't love to bounce? One way to bounce in the direction of reinvention is to have your client insist on it. Silpada is a direct marketing organization made up of women who sell silver jewelry. When they invited me to speak in 2008 I didn't know what was in store. Picture speaking to 4,200 women hopped up on enthusiasm and life. After the speech, your product table gets mobbed. Fun to be a rock star for a day. Then, the meeting planner asked a fateful question, "Would you come back and speak to us in 2010?" "Of course," you say with outside voice while inside voice says, "Good thinking Einstein, now you have to invent a second keynote." Have you noticed many speakers only have one presentation they rely on? See that person once and you're likely to see the same message a second time? I fell into that category up until a few weeks ago. A keynote presentation can turn into a security blanket very quickly. Much like a three year-old's banky. Letting go of the first talk can take years. The reason? It's easier to find a new client than develop a new talk. Jerry Seinfeld has a documentary called Comedian and it covers this kind of transformation process on film. Launching a whole new "set" is unheard of in comedy circles. Trying a whole new vocation in your fifties, living in a new country in your forties, taking up a new sport in your thirties - you name it. Any form of reinvention can be easier to avoid than to embrace. See the problem - fix it.There's so much coming at us today. Changing course can be intimidating. Hence, a better way to reinvent is a necessary message for today.
Bounce Back - a fast and fun way to reinvent is what I delivered to Silpada. The feedback was fascinating. "The first keynote you gave was phenomenal. Yet this one was even better. It had everything that I could apply to my business on a day to day basis," said one director. "You nailed it. This was exactly what we needed to hear. What a great follow up to your Olympic presentation," said the meeting planner. What? No banky? I can let go of my banky? Does this mean I can wear big boy pants now? The "Immo Bounce" module is a highlight in my new talk. The instant you're faced with a setback you jump to your feet (to the tune of Black Eye'd Peas, Imma Be), you sing Immo Bounce and start dancing. Sound goofy? Nope! It's fun and instantly changes your mindset. If you know it's time to reinvent, it's time to bounce. Immo bounce, Immo bounce, Immo, Immo, Immo bounce :) Until next week, it's full speed ahead,
