Take Market Share from Your Competitors

by Vince Poscente
Author of The Ant and the Elephant, Invinceable Principles and The Age of Speed

You may have noticed two interesting corporate profiles surfacing in 2010.

One profile is a company curled up in the corner, in the fetal position, waiting for the storm to pass. You can tell it's them because there is a distinct sound of Barry Manilow rearranged for a Wurlitzer electronic organ played over tinny speakers only found in elevators and small town supermarkets.

VPThe other profile has taken an aggressive approach. Think Led Zeppelin or Wolfmother. There's an idea... Let's have a sound track for the rest of this eBrief.

Click this link. Turn up your speakers. Come back to this article and keep reading.

C'mon.

Let your hair out. Wear that Spandex found in the bottom of your drawer. Air guitar like no one is looking. Let's rock!

An unusual indicator of what the economy is doing can be found on my speaking calendar. Friend and president of Capitalogix, Howard Getson postulates - professional speakers are one leading indicator for the economy.

If you look my speaking calendar for Q1, 2010 it is four times busier than it was in Q1 2009. (ohhhh this is a great part of the song... now pretend you're the drummer...)

Every single one of our corporate clients opening their wallets to hire me this year are lockstep in their approach. Forge ahead now. Be aggressive. Don't wait for things to get better. Make things better. Take market share from our competitors.

Their competitors seem to be waiting for a sign - let's go out on a limb and call that sign "revenue."

Well, if you're reading this and you're looking for a different sign, this is it. The revenue is out there. It's just going to the wrong company. Your job is to show that misguided revenue where it belongs.

Verne Harnish, author of the book, The Rockerfeller Habits called his company Gazelles because of this quote:

"Every morning in Africa, a Gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning a Lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest Gazelle or it will starve to death.
It doesn't matter whether you are a Lion or a Gazelle...
when the sun comes up, you'd better be running."

You can't afford to wait in 2010. You have a responsibility to wake up every morning and define 2010 on your terms.

Define your year or your competitor will define it for you.

Now jump off those speakers... stick your tongue out and jump around the stage.

You own 2010 you little rock star you.

Until next week, it's full speed ahead,
