Resolutions-Make, Mistake and Remakeby Vince PoscenteAuthor of The Ant and the Elephant, Invinceable Principles and The Age of Speed MAKE Last week’s message offered an idea for you to make a collage of images of what you want to create, build or manifest in 2009. One reader challenged me to include my whole family in the idea. On Sunday night, we did. We bought a stack of magazines, poster board, glue sticks and scissors and made it a family activity. My wife, mom, three kids (11, 10 and 8) and myself sat around the dining room table and made collages. One by one, as the poster board of cuts and pastes were done, the creator would describe what he or she wanted to create in the next twelve months. It was an enlightening thing to derive meaning from the images from each member of the family. Not a bad idea when you consider the extra benefits there are to telling others your goals. Benefits like accountability, energetic support and the odd nudge from your inner circle. MISTAKE While we’re on the topic, when it comes to resolutions the quickest way to make it fizzle is put what you don’t want in the verbiage. Replace negative words with positive outcomes. For example, if you want to be more eco-friendly a poor way to say it is: I will be less wasteful. A better way would be: I will compost and recycle more. If you want to quit tobacco use, the negative imprint on your subconscious is: I will quit smoking. It’s better to say, I will only breathe clean air in 2009. The annual favorite is weight-loss. Instead of saying, I will lose 15 pounds of flab, say, I will trim down to x lbs. and stay there in 2009. REMAKE If weight-loss was your new year’s resolution, adding imagery will add rocket fuel to your goal. Here is a digital solution you might like. Weightview.com offers a free photo alteration service to people wanting a visual stimulus of their goal. Just upload an image of what you look like today and about 48 hours later, the image comes back with the up to 50 pounds you decided to lose. before after TAKE on the power of imagery with people that love and support you. Avoid the Here’s to an amazing 2009 to you and yours. Until next week it’s full speed ahead,
